Jacques Wiener House

Attorney Jacques L. Wiener (1909-1988) was the youngest of the four Wiener brothers, and provided legal assistance to his half-brother Samuel G. Wiener Sr. and brother William B. Wiener Sr. with the development of Pine Park Subdivision which was recorded in 1937. Jacques and his wife Betty selected lots 10 and 11 in the subdivision for their residence, across from the Samuel G. Wiener house; however, the couple desired a less progressive house than either Samuel G. or William B. would ordinarily design. The house was designed in late 1940 and the architect of record was Samuel G. Wiener, though it is probable that William B. Wiener was involved with the design without being officially credited.

The house has a traditional hipped roof that was originally designed for mineral surface roofing with metal covered battens; however, was built with traditional asphaltic shingles. The house, like most Wiener-designed pre-WWII houses, had a screened porch and attic fan to assist with natural ventilation. The original windows were steel casement sashes which were replaced in the 2000’s with aluminum sashes. The house has stylized board and batten vertical siding with alternating curvilinear concave and convex profiles on the second floor and either brick or traditional “drop” or “coved” horizontal siding on the first floor.

The concrete swimming pool was added in 1946 shortly after the war and was among the first private pools in Shreveport.
